• Athens would not be Athens without the arts community that draws and engages thousands of residents. Music production, visual art, writing, film, and related work should be supported through direct activities such as SPLOST funds, which develop public spaces infused with creativity. We should also continue support for Leisure Services Arts Division programing, as well as greater opportunity for arts activities throughout Athens, such as neighborhood-scale festivals, and more frequent outdoor musical performances.
  • Our development code should encourage the availability of otherwise underutilized spaces for art activities. Rather than daunting retaining walls, large new structures could house small-scale galleries, as you find along Greenville, SC’s Reedy River.
